BIOGRAPHY

From an early age, I have held an unwavering passion for writing and long-form storytelling. Around the time my then-future career as a Major League Baseball player floundered (let’s be honest: around age seven or so), my sole focus turned to the written word.

My penchant for producing intriguing and highly-detailed stories on tight deadlines has been a driving force. I view myself as an incredibly hard worker, and I pride myself on my diligence, meticulous eye for detail and desire to work with others to create a perfect product.

Through the years, I have cultivated my writing skills at several print and web-only publications. After serving as Sports Editor and then Editor-and-Chief at my college's newspaper, I worked as a sports reporter at the Rochester (NY) Democrat & Chronicle, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and the Orange County (Calif.) Register, as well as a Marketing Operations Manager with the Bonnier Corporation, a national special-interest magazine publisher in New York City. I currently serve as a Senior Marketing Communications Specialist at Canon Solutions America inside the Corporate Communication department. I have also written in the pages of the Los Angeles Times, the North County (Calif.) Times and the Pomerado News (Calif.), among many others.

While journalism and content creation has been a major focus, I have also discovered an incredible passion for screenwriting. I have produced three feature-length spec scripts, along with several teleplays. I am currently in the process of writing my fourth feature-length script, a pilot TV show and my first novel.

As an award-winning reporter, I am highly experienced in covering breaking news, enterprise features, game stories/previews and evergreen content — all while writing on extremely tight deadlines. Additionally, I'm skilled in producing press releases, creating corporate-level messaging and media outreach. Through my personal Twitter, @Jwswriter, I have excelled at digital reporting. In using this outlet, I have live-tweeted game coverage, meetings, press conferences and breaking news.

I am proficient in copy editing, page layout, social media reporting, videography and photography. I also have a plethora of experience broadcasting live sporting events, hosting my own hour-long sports show and board operating live broadcasts.
